Changing Strings

Over the weekend I tried to play this song my boyfriend was trying to teach me...it was hard. I got it but i just need to practice moving my hands faster. Even though I rock on Guitar Hero, it's not really the same :P. My fingertips are already course from playing so much. They peeled a while ago and everything :P ew.
In class we started to move from the highest string to the next highest. We're basically playing the same songs but on another string. It's fun and I'm making new friends in class. Even though I'm kind of ahead in the class, it's good to have other people to learn with just because it makes it more fun.
On the weekend my friends played in a battle of the bands show at the Churchill Pub in Miami and they won :D. They're the ones who help me with guitar and I really started to have interest in playing because of  one of their guitarists. Their band is called Hermetic. Since they won the battle, they get free recording time in a studio which is really cool. Too bad I couldn't have gone to see them play...it was 18+ and on a Sunday...yay :(. Oh well, maybe I'll see them play when they become famous :P haha. That'd be awesome.

Tabs :)

Today I learnt how to read tabs. Tabs can be found online and I'm trying do one right now. I think I might give up on it today and learn it again on Monday in guitar class because I clearly didn't understand it right :P. We also learnt the C and G7 chords today, but I already knew the C note and it was really easy. I'm playing my dad's electric guitar right now, it's pretty cool. And I got my guitar strings for class today (woohoo 100 points!).
Yesterday we learnt a few songs in class but we're just practicing reading three notes on the staff still. I think I'm learning it, and hopefully I don't forget how to read the music when harder things are added in. I'm glad that we're getting to play in class everyday now, but I've been putting extra work in outside of school to learn how to play because I want to get really good. I think I can do it as long as I have my friends to help me. If I don't learn something as fast as I'd like to I find that I get frustrated and annoyed because it feels like a boring job. I hope that doesn't happen :S...but I'm having fun now anyways.

Day 2

Today felt like the actual start of the WISE program. Yesterday was more of an introductory class with AMAZING speeches by Coach Love and Mrs. Stoklosa. They helped a lot with the starting of the class. I met with my mentor, Mrs. Hurst today :). It was fun because we're learning about this class together. We got to know more about each other and so far I think the meetings are going to be really fun. There's a few things that we're not sure of about the mentor reports but we'll figure it out.
I started to play the guitar in Guitar class today. It was really easy just because I play a little guitar already. The best thing about class today was that we learnt how to read basic music. We learnt how to draw a treble clef on a staff and the G,E, and F note. I really want to learn how to read music because then I could play anything. It was hard for me to focus on reading the notes rather than memorizing the song that we were playing. I kept finding myself losing my place in reading the notes and playing from memory, but I had to keep telling myself to focus on learning the music. The piece was called "Folk Song". It was easy to play but the main point of it, for me, was so that I could learn how to read music starting from the basics. Today I even practiced playing some guitar at home. I learnt how to play a short version of the Harry Potter theme song because my friend mentioned it to me earlier today :P. Overall I had a good day. I learnt more about what I have to do for WISE and I learnt more about my project :).

First Day of WISE

Well, today was my first day in the official WISE class. I'm kind of nervous to get started because I'm not too sure what I want to do yet. I like so many things that I'm finding it hard to stick to one topic. For right now I'm going to try guitar as my topic. I hope I find something interesting to do about it. I like music in general so I don't know if I'm going to stick with only guitar. If I end up not liking guitar, I was thinking of studying different languages and seeing how it is to be a translator.
It's a relief to know that I can change my topic throughout the semester but I want to focus on one thing that I find interesting soon. Hopefully I can think of something good to do on guitar. I thought the "making a trailer" thing for our projects today was really cool. I hope by then that I'll have enough confidence in whatever topic I choose, but for now I'm just going to test out what I like the best.
